Human beings are conditioned by their socio-cultural environment. each one is born and raised in a particular socio-cultural context which has drastic influence upon one's life. For women, it is even more; preciely they can be perceived as socio-cultural captives. The term 'captive' both as noun and as adjective reveals that a person or animal that is confined, restrained, held under restiction or control. This is a state of person's being where she/he is under someone's control. This ensnared position reflects their personality and totality in terms of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual condition. The reality of modern women is not far from that of eighth century BCE. Hence, this paper is an attempt to unfold this issue from the Book of Amos and to propose some alternatives for gender justice in the contemporary world.
