This paper attempts to highlight the Primum Officium of priests as proclaiming of the Gospel to every creature. It is true that the proclamation of the word is a difficult task in the present times. However, the priest's preaching must expound the word of God in the light of Christ's teaching and thereby urge everyone to conversion and holiness. Even though the three functions of the priestly ministry, the proclamation of the word, administration of sacraments and shepherding the flock, seem to be mutually inclusive and fulfill and edify each other, the primacy is given to the proclamation of the word. However, the priority given to the word i noway denies the priest's sacramental and pastoral responsibilities.
