Swami Vivekananda, Social Justice Ksatriya?

By: Material type: ArticleArticlePublication details: Dimapur; Oriental Theological Seminary, Fall2020Description: Pages 100-111Subject(s):
Contents:
this essay examines Swami Vivekanda's Practical Vedanta and its potential for social justice efforts in light of Catholic Social teaching and Fr. Joseph Cardijn's 'review of life' method. This comparison highlights a parallel approach between the two methods in the process of critically examining social contexts through Seeing/ Darsana, Judging/Viveka, and Acting/ Karmin. Doing so might maintain the necessary connection between spiritual and social reform, which both movements understand to be essential. Furthermore, a comparative theological engagement between the two approaches helps elucidate and illuminate aspects of each tradition that ight help in efforts for a more just and free world.
