Migration is a normal phenomenon for every society. 20th century Kerala has witnessed two important line of migration mainly from the central Travancore to the Malabar and to the highlands of Travancore itself. The genesis of this process was a result of various factors including economic, social, cultural, political, geographical etc. The paper concentrates on the historical antecedents of Iddukki Migration. It makes an in-depth study on the various factors that forced people to move to the high ranges for a better life. A systematic approach to the process of migration, discussion on the geographical location and the political situation of the geographical location are included in the paper which makes the analysis more comprehensible.
