Religious fundamentalism is a global phenomenon that we find in all religions: Christian fundamentalism, Islamic fundamentalism and Hindu fundamentalism and so forth. It may not be wrong to assume that the period of tolerance ushered in by postmodernism ha taken a serious setback. In fact we live in a time where changes especially in matters related to faith affiliation and beliefs are hard to come by. In other words, there is some sort of rigidity and strict adherence to one's religious beliefs as the only truth. India being a pluralistic country of religion, culture and ethnicity the rise of religious fundamentalisms puts peaceful co-existence in jeopardy. keeping in view the many packages religious fundamentalism brings, this article attempts to give a Christian response by having a cursory look at religous fundamentalism, its concoction with politics and its implications for a community like ours.
