A Socio - historical Reading of the Noahic Covenant in Genesis 9 : 1-17

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: Shillong; , John Roberts Theological College, Jan - Dec 2023Description: pages, 67 -80
Contents:
Over the centuries , reading the Pentateuch of the Old Testament has been a challenge because of its difficulty in presenting the authors. Traditionally, Moses has been attributed to be the author but ambiguity on the authorship came under criticism as scholars of the 18th and 19the century's proposed different hypothesis to explain the authorship. The Noahic account of Genesis has been frequently read as a narrative of God establishing covenant with a man called Noah in the John Roberts Theological College,. Yet on a close reading there is a possibility to situate Noahic covenant in a post-exilic context. In this paper an exegetical study on Gen 9 : 1-17 will be done using the socio-historical method to understand what could have made the post-exilic community to formulate Noahic covenant
