The Dynamic Status of Women in Hindu Tradition: Re-reading the Narratives of women from Hindu Scriptures - Pune; Union Biblical Seminary, Mar. 2020 - Pages 53-70

The Status of women is a global concern today. The position of a person in a social system is termed status. The status of women in a particular society manifests in "her rights, privileges and their determination, her access to power and authority, the state of her position when compared to that of man.." Uma Devi asserts, "The status of woman is the yardstick for assessing the standard of culture of any age of any nation." It is applicable to Indian context as well. Early Vedic religion is said to be simple but more profound, upholding societal and gender equality. In the course of its history it manufactured hierarchical structures and inequality in line with the vestd interest of the affluent communities. women and aboriginals are the most victims of such process. Since scriptures play significant role on the world view and way of life for all religious communities, the present research undertakes the task of identifying the 'dynamic status of women' from Hindu religious scriptures in view of gender justice.
