This article, taking Bangladesh as a test case, will analyze both external and internal factors to argue that the state religion clause, in its present form, is incompatible with the pro-secular constitutional framework of Bangladesh. This is primarily because it contradicts the principles of secularism and other fundamental tenets of the Constitution, with regard to Bangladesh's past and Present reality. It will also show that the sope of the state religion clause is inconsistent with the principles of political secularism.
