History is a study of the past events. However, the understanding and interpretations of history changes with the passage of time. Historians record only a part of what really happened in the past and many of the facts remain unknown or not documented. Historiography is a study of how historians began to gain more prominence by the late antiquity and began to dominate the European historical writings till the late Middle ages when Christian history took a denominational turn after the Reformation. By the early modern ages, secular history regained its dominance and by the 20th century Christian historians began to follow the trends of the secular historians which continued till today.
